Private tour with transfer
The private tour with optional transfer is the dearest and most comfortable: a guide of your own, and a round trip estimated at one hour in all between the museum and your accommodation. It suits a group that wants nothing to organise; for a solo traveller the price per person becomes high.
Two-hour private tour
The private guided tour showed at about $270 per person in our checks; other private tour listings show a per-group price, so check the number of people on the page. It lets you ask for the paintings you want to see.
Rijksmuseum + Van Gogh in one day
The Rijksmuseum + Van Gogh Museum guided tour lasts about 5 h with a lunch break at your own cost. If you are torn between the two, read Rijksmuseum or Van Gogh Museum and our page on Van Gogh Museum tickets.
2.5-hour small group
The small-group tour takes you to the big paintings (Rembrandt, Vermeer, Frans Hals) with a guide who joins the group inside the museum. The price we saw ranges from $103 to $123 depending on the version of the page. The listing says at least 2 guests are needed for the tour to run; otherwise another date or a refund is offered. A private version also exists.
The timed ticket
The entry ticket is the best seller of this topic. It gives a precise slot: you may enter up to 15 minutes after the printed time, then stay until closing. Keep the barcode on your phone. For details on the museum, see our Rijksmuseum page.
What is not included / pitfalls
- Official ticket: the museum sells its own tickets (€25 for adults, free up to 18). GetYourGuide is a third-party reseller, not the only source.
- "Skip the line": the phrase means skipping the ticket-office queue, not the security check at the door.
- Museumkaart and I amsterdam City Card: these cards do not exempt you from booking an entry time; see the museum passes.
- Cancellation: terms differ between offers (some ticket variants are non-refundable); read the page.
- Prices in dollars: guided tours are shown in dollars in our checks; the euro amount may differ.
- Large bags: they go to the free cloakroom.
Which offer to choose?
- Tight budget or free visit: the timed ticket, or book directly with the museum.
- First visit: the 2.5-hour small-group tour.
- Art enthusiast: the Rijksmuseum + Van Gogh combo.
- Couple or family: a private tour.
- Limited mobility: the private tour with transfer.
Booking at the best time
The museum is open every day from 9:00 to 17:00; the first slots on weekday mornings are the calmest. For the rest of the day, see around the Rijksmuseum and booking tickets in Amsterdam.
