Anne Frank House: booking tickets and planning your visit

Updated on October 1, 2026

The Anne Frank House is the house at Prinsengracht 263 where Anne Frank, her family and four other people hid from 1942 to 1944, in the Secret Annex. The museum is open every day from 9 am to 10 pm; an adult ticket costs €16.50 and can only be booked online, for a set time slot. Allow about an hour for the visit. The rooms are small and the stairs very steep: the museum sets a minimum age of 10 and asks visitors not to bring large bags.

Highlights

The facade at number 263 housed the business of Otto Frank, Anne's father. The offices and warehouse were in the front house; the hiding place was in the rear building, out of sight from the canal. The museum entrance is in the modern building next door, at Westermarkt 20.

The Secret Annex

It is reached by the staircase hidden behind a revolving bookcase. The rooms have been left empty, at the request of Otto Frank, the only survivor of the eight people in hiding; the photos and postcards Anne stuck on her bedroom wall and the pencil marks recording the height of Anne and her sister Margot are still there.

Anne Frank's diary

Anne kept her diary during the two years spent in hiding. The museum displays the original red-checked notebook, along with objects, documents and testimonies that trace the lives of the people in hiding and of those who helped them.

Seen from the Westerkerk tower, the house stands on the Prinsengracht, next to the church whose carillon Anne could hear from the hiding place. The museum café overlooks the canal.
