Electric Ladyland Amsterdam: the museum of fluorescent art, tickets and opening hours
Electric Ladyland is a tiny museum in the Jordaan devoted to fluorescence: artworks, minerals and objects that glow under ultraviolet light. It opened on 19 April 1999 beneath the Electric Lady gallery and presents itself as the first museum in the world dedicated entirely to the subject. Visits are by appointment only, Wednesday to Saturday from 2pm to 6pm, and a ticket costs €5. Allow half an hour to an hour: it is a curiosity to add to a walk around the neighbourhood, not a full-day visit.
Highlights

The entrance
The museum hides at Tweede Leliedwarsstraat 5, a quiet Jordaan street. The white façade looks like an artist's shop; the museum occupies the basement of the gallery.

The fluorescent objects
The museum shows fluorescent minerals from collections around the world, mineral artworks from the 1950s, and fluorescent advertisements and objects dating back to 1932.

Participatory art
At the heart of the museum, a whole room is designed as a fluorescent environment that visitors enter and take part in.
Scientific uses
Panels show what fluorescence is used for in astronomy, geology and oceanography.
The Electric Lady gallery
Above the museum, the art gallery opened in 1987 by the artist Nick Padalino, who also created the museum.

Tips
- Booking is compulsory: the museum only receives visitors by appointment, made online through its official website, Wednesday to Saturday between 2pm and 6pm. Price seen in October 2026: €5 per person, free for children under 12. The rooms are small and visited in small groups, so do not turn up without a booking hoping to get in. The museum is in a basement: if you have trouble walking, contact it before booking. For other offbeat places, see also the KattenKabinet and the Museum of Illusions.
How to get there
Tweede Leliedwarsstraat 5, 1015 TB Amsterdam, in the Jordaan. The neighbourhood is easy to explore on foot from the Westerkerk and the Noordermarkt market: find the address on a map before setting out, as the Jordaan's cross streets look very alike.
