Museum of Illusions Amsterdam: tickets, opening hours and how long to allow

Updated on October 8, 2026

The Museum of Illusions Amsterdam is at Keizersgracht 676, on the canal ring, a few minutes' walk from Rembrandtplein and Utrechtsestraat. It is an interactive museum: you come to touch, pose and be photographed among more than 60 optical illusions (tilted rooms, upside-down rooms, tunnels, holograms, mirrors). It is open to all ages, the visit takes about 90 minutes, and it suits a family or a rainy day. It is not an art museum: you come to have fun, not to contemplate.

An address on the Keizersgracht

The museum is at Keizersgracht 676, a building with a pale stone façade that is also the address of the former Nieuwe Waalse Kerk. The façade and the canal are worth a glance before you go in.

Illusions to experience, not just to look at

More than 60 illusions are on show, and many are experienced rather than watched: you step into them, sit in them, lean into them. The appeal is mostly the photos: a well-chosen pose makes you look taller, smaller, suspended or upside down. Cameras are allowed, and the museum encourages visitors to photograph their favourite illusions.

A museum for the whole family

The museum says it welcomes all ages. For children and teenagers it is an easy outing, more playful than cultural; see also our guides to Amsterdam with children and Amsterdam with teenagers.

Practical info

Tips

The official website says you save €2 by booking online, with skip-the-line entry. The prices we found (October 2026, on third-party ticket sellers, to be confirmed on the official website before you go) are about €19.50 for an adult and €16.50 for ages 5 to 18, with the same reduced rate for students, seniors and visitors with disabilities; entry is free under 5. The Museumkaart is not valid in this museum (see our guide to museum passes). Allow about 90 minutes, a little more if you want to pose at every illusion. An accessibility statement is published on the official website: read it before you come with a wheelchair or a pushchair.

How to get there

Keizersgracht 676, 1017 ET Amsterdam. Several tram and metro stops are 4 to 7 minutes' walk away: Vijzelgracht, Keizersgracht, Rembrandtplein and Utrechtsestraat. From Central Station, allow about 25 minutes on foot or a tram ride. For paid car parks nearby, see our guide to parking in Amsterdam. To extend the outing, the Willet-Holthuysen Museum and Rembrandtplein are close by; to understand the canal setting around you, read about the Amsterdam canals.
