Moco Museum Amsterdam: Banksy and contemporary art, tickets and opening hours

Updated on October 1, 2026

The Moco Museum (short for "Modern Contemporary") is a private museum opened in 2016 in Villa Alsberg, a 1904 house on Museumplein between the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum. It shows works by Banksy on a permanent basis, alongside modern and contemporary artists such as Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring and Yayoi Kusama, and immersive digital installations. The visit, shorter than at the big neighbouring museums, spreads over several floors linked by stairs. Adult tickets start at €19.95 online.

Highlights

Villa Alsberg

Villa Alsberg

Designed in 1904 by the architect Eduard Cuypers for the banker Siegmund Alsberg, this brick house with gables and white half-timbering remained a private residence until 1939.

On the edge of Museumplein

On the edge of Museumplein

The villa looks straight out onto the lawns and paths of Museumplein. Its townhouse outline stands out against the large neighbouring buildings and against the street art shown inside.

Banksy, "Laugh Now"

The ground floor hosts a permanent exhibition devoted to Banksy, the anonymous British street artist. Moco has shown his work since it opened in 2016, which makes it, according to the museum, one of the longest-running Banksy exhibitions in the world.

Modern Masters and Contemporary Masters

The upper floors show works by 20th-century figures, including Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring and Yayoi Kusama, followed by contemporary artists, among them Marina Abramović.

Digital art

Part of the route is given over to digital and immersive installations, notably those by the Dutch artist Studio Irma, which visitors physically step into.
