Museumnacht at a glance

  • Date: Saturday 7 November 2026, one night only.
  • Venues: more than 50 museums, large and small, spread across the city.
  • How it works: a single ticket (usually a wristband) for all participating venues, valid for the evening and a good part of the night. In recent editions, the evening ran until 2am.
  • Programme: collections open at night, with concerts, DJ sets, performances, workshops and unusual tours. Each museum devises its own programme, often very different from the everyday one.

It is a way to see museums differently: the mood is festive, closer to a night out than a classic visit.

Tickets

The ticket is sold in advance on the official Museumnacht website. Museumnacht sells out almost every year: buy as soon as sales open, not the day before. Check on the official website:

  • the price and the minimum age for the 2026 edition;
  • the opening hours of the evening;
  • whether your Museumkaart or I amsterdam City Card gives any advantage: by default, assume a separate ticket and do not count on free entry;
  • how to collect your wristband, which may be at a specific venue.

Avoid tickets offered by strangers on social media or in the street; use the official ticket office or the resale it offers, if there is one. To prepare tickets for other museums, see our guide to booking tickets in Amsterdam and our comparison of museum passes.

How to choose your evening

With more than 50 venues and a single night, you cannot see everything: choose three to five museums at most and group them by neighbourhood.

  • The museum quarter: the Rijksmuseum, the Stedelijk Museum and the Van Gogh Museum are neighbours, a few minutes' walk apart. It is the most practical area for linking several venues. Our guide to the museum quarter helps you put this route together.
  • Small museums: they are often the least crowded and the most surprising that night. Look at the official programme to spot the ones that interest you.
  • Queues: the big museums have the longest waits. Arrive when the doors open or late in the evening.

Check the time of each event: performances and concerts have precise slots, and some rooms fill up very quickly.

Getting around at night

Trams and metro run until about half past midnight, then GVB night buses take over from Centraal Station. If your last venue is far from your hotel, plan your way back before you set off. See our guide to getting around Amsterdam. Dress warmly: in early November the nights are cool and rainy, and you will be walking between museums.
