Red Light Secrets: the Museum of Prostitution, tickets and opening hours

Updated on October 8, 2026

Red Light Secrets presents itself as the world's first museum of prostitution. It stands at Oudezijds Achterburgwal 60, in the heart of the Red Light District, in a building the museum counts among the oldest monuments in Amsterdam, a former brothel. The visit, led by an audio guide of twelve stories from sex workers, takes you into the rooms behind a window and into the daily life of the women who work there. A ticket costs €17, and entry is forbidden under 16.

Highlights

Oudezijds Achterburgwal

Oudezijds Achterburgwal

The museum faces this Red Light District canal, between the Oude Kerk and Nieuwmarkt. The street is pedestrian along the water and very busy in the evening.

The twelve audio stories

The tour relies on testimonies from sex workers, told in five languages (Dutch, English, French, German, Spanish). It shows the other side of the trade, far beyond the window.

The red window

You can sit in a sex worker's place in a red-lit window and have your picture taken, a personal photo being included in the ticket. It is the only place in the district where photos are allowed: in the street, photographing the windows is forbidden.
