Madame Tussauds Amsterdam: tickets, opening hours and tips

Updated on October 1, 2026

Madame Tussauds Amsterdam takes up the upper floors of the Peek & Cloppenburg building at Dam 20, across Dam Square from the Royal Palace. It opened in 1970 on the Kalverstraat as the second Madame Tussauds wax museum in Europe after London, and moved to Dam Square in 1991. The route features more than 90 wax figures spread over a dozen themed rooms: the Dutch royal family, film and music stars, DJs, athletes, painters and Marvel superheroes. You may touch the figures and take photos everywhere except at the reception. Allow about an hour for the visit; tickets start at €19 online, against €27 at the door (prices checked in October 2026).

Highlights

The facade on Dam Square

The stone building, opened in 1917 as a Peek & Cloppenburg store, is a listed national monument. Madame Tussaud's name stands in gold letters beneath the large round window, and two figures are perched on the facade above the square.

You enter at street level, on the square, a few steps from the Royal Palace. A photographer takes your picture on arrival and hands you a photo card: register it with your email address to receive the free videos made during the visit (catwalk, karaoke, a recording with Adele). The visit starts with a lift up to the upper floors.

The Royals room

A hall of gold, deep red and marble brings together the Dutch royal family: King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima, Crown Princess Catharina-Amalia, Princess Beatrix and Queens Juliana and Wilhelmina, along with William of Orange. It is the most Dutch room on the route, together with the traditional pub (Dutch Bar) where you raise a glass with the singers André Hazes senior and junior.

I AM ART

A room devoted to painters: you pose for Rembrandt in front of The Night Watch, and meet Van Gogh, Mondrian in a set inspired by his work, and Dalí with his melting clock. A playful stop before or after the Rijksmuseum or the Van Gogh Museum.

The interactive rooms

In the Marvel Avengers zone, you try to lift Thor's hammer and step into Tony Stark's lab. The Dutch DJs (Armin van Buuren, Tiësto, Martin Garrix, Hardwell, Afrojack), the footballer Johan Cruijff and the speed skater Jutta Leerdam also have their figures. Some figures shown on the official website may be missing while they are being maintained in the studio.

Tips

Buy online at least one day ahead: the Online Saver ticket starts at €19, against €27 at the door. The Late ticket, valid from 5pm Friday to Sunday (every day during Dutch school holidays), starts at €16. The Anytime ticket (€29) lets you arrive whenever you like on the booked day. Combined tickets with The Amsterdam Dungeon start at €29 and those with a canal cruise at €37 (prices checked in October 2026). The booked time is when you may join the queue, not your exact entry time; you can change the date for free up to five times online. The Museumkaart gives 25% off the door price. Suitcases and large bags cannot be left on site (private Lockerpoint lockers at Nieuwezijds Kolk). The visit starts with a lift and the attraction has several staircases: strollers are allowed but there is nowhere to leave them; only two wheelchair users are admitted at a time, so let the museum know in advance.
