The Amsterdam Dungeon is an immersive theatre show at Rokin 78, the street that continues south from the Dam. The tour lasts about an hour: costumed actors take you through 750 years of the city's dark history, from the plague to the Inquisition, in eight interactive scenes. The effects are meant to be frightening. A ticket costs €19 online and €25 at the door.
Highlights

Rokin
The Dungeon is on Rokin, a wide street that follows the old bed of the Amstel, between the Dam square and Muntplein. The Munttoren is a few minutes' walk away.
A show rather than a museum
The site presents eight interactive scenes played by nine actors. The audience moves from room to room, and some visitors are asked to take part. The show is performed in English or Dutch, depending on the language of the person at the head of the queue.
The formulas
The Dungeon also offers combined tickets with Madame Tussauds or a canal cruise, and "After Dark" evenings for adults only on set dates, in English.

Tips
Prices seen in October 2026 on the official website: €19 online, €25 at the entrance; combined tickets start between €29 and €37, and the "After Dark" evening costs €27 per adult. Book online to avoid queuing and the higher price at the desk. The site sets no minimum age for the daytime visit, but the scenes are deliberately frightening: young children are not advised to come. "After Dark" evenings are for over-18s only. Check accessibility on the website if you come in a wheelchair. If you buy from a reseller, compare with the official price before paying.
