The Albert Cuyp Market (Albert Cuypmarkt) has filled the Albert Cuypstraat, in the De Pijp neighbourhood, since 1905. With around 260 stalls, it bills itself as the largest daily market in Europe. It is open Monday to Saturday from 9:30am to 5pm and entry is free. People come for fresh produce, fabrics and clothes, but also to try a warm stroopwafel or raw herring, a few steps from De Pijp metro station.
Highlights

The market street
Stalls line both sides of the Albert Cuypstraat, between the Ferdinand Bolstraat and the Van Woustraat, in front of late 19th-century workers' housing. Walk the whole street: what is on sale changes from one end to the other, from fruit and vegetables to clothes, fabric by the metre and accessories.

Stroopwafels
The caramel syrup waffle is best eaten warm, straight from the iron. The Rudi's Original Stroopwafels stand, opposite number 182, has been making them at the market since 1978. Other street food stalls sell poffertjes, chips and snacks.

The Ferdinand Bolstraat crossing
At the western end of the market, the exit of De Pijp station (metro 52) opens onto the Ferdinand Bolstraat. It is the best starting point for walking the market from west to east.
Herring and fish stalls
Fishmongers serve raw herring with onions and pickles, or in a bun (broodje haring), as well as kibbeling, battered and fried pieces of fish.
Cheese, flowers and fabrics
Cheesemongers sell Gouda and other Dutch cheeses by the slice. Flowers, plants, fabric by the metre, leather goods and jewellery round out the choice.
Opening hours and access
Open Monday to Saturday from 9:30am to 5pm, closed on Sundays. Also closed on Easter Monday, King's Day (27 April), Whit Monday, 25 and 26 December and 1 January; open on Good Friday and 5 May; on Ascension Day, open from 10am to 5pm. The market may close in stormy weather: check its social media.
