Crowds and prices

July and August are the busiest months: queues at the best-known sights, museums full at peak hours, expensive hotels. Two weeks are particularly tight: Pride week and the weekend of the Dekmantel festival. Book tickets in advance for the Anne Frank House, the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, and visit museums early in the morning or late in the afternoon. June, calmer, has the longest days of the year. To compare with the rest of the year, read the best time to visit Amsterdam.
