The NDSM-werf in Amsterdam-Noord is the former shipyard of the Nederlandsche Dok en Scheepsbouw Maatschappij, on the north bank of the IJ, now a district of artists' studios, street art, festivals and waterside restaurants. The site, around NDSM-Plein (1033 WC Amsterdam), is freely accessible at any time, and you get there from Central Station on the free F4 ferry in about fifteen minutes. Its vast industrial halls now house the STRAAT Museum, devoted to street art and graffiti, and the IJ-Hallen flea market, held on certain weekends.
Highlights

The Faralda crane
This former loading crane from the 1950s, more than 45 metres high, towers over the quay. Dismantled and restored piece by piece, it houses a private hotel of three stacked suites, at 35, 40 and 45 metres, booked directly with the hotel: there is no reception and no access without a booking.

The shipyard and its relics
Cranes, slipways and sheds recall the yard formed in 1946 by the merger of two shipbuilding companies, which specialised in giant oil tankers in the 1960s before closing in 1984. The grounds now host studios, festivals and events.
The STRAAT Museum
Set in a former 8,000 m² shed on NDSM-Plein, this museum of street art and graffiti shows large-format works by big names and young talent from all over the world. Open Monday from 12:00 to 17:00 and Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00, with late openings on some Thursdays; adults €21.50, ages 13-18 €11.50, students €16.50, free up to age 12 with an adult.
The IJ-Hallen flea market
It takes place in the halls at NDSM-Plein 1. Dates published for late 2026: 10 and 11 October, then 31 October and 1 November, from 9:00 to 16:30. Entry €6.50, children €3, and €11 for early access from 6:00.
Open-air street art
The facades and sheds of the site are covered with murals and graffiti that change regularly. A free stroll between the quay, the halls and NDSM-Plein is enough to see a good part of them.
Pllek
This restaurant on the IJ, at TT Neveritaweg 59, serves largely plant-based food and also hosts yoga classes, DJ nights and open-air cinema. Open daily from 9:30 until 1:00 (2:00 on Fridays and Saturdays), kitchen until 22:00.
